today. a upper -- a few upper 80s, here is sal. and it is working in marin county from novato, it should be a nice drive for you. san jose could have a good alternate route from 880 because of a crash in sunny veil. 6:00 let's go back to the desk. two people are hurt after an overnight street brawl in san francisco. allie rasmus is at the scene and it looks quiet out there, allie but you have new details? what do you know? >> reporter: well, dave we did talk to a man who watched this fight from his apartment building that overlooks the area, this is where the fight took place. it was 2:00 a.m. this morning when he saw 20 - 30 people involved in a fight right in the middle of the street and the police had to

close off the street for two hours for their investigation. based on what he could see, this did not appear to be an even handed brawl. most of the people were attacking one guy. [ speaking spanish ] >> reporter: they were shouting pro fan tis, yelling, kill the guy, kill the guys, this witness explained to us in spanish. they rushed him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. mother man was also hurt and also went to the hospital. officers do not believe this brawl was gang relate but because of the type of profanity, he believes it was a racially motivated brawl between english speaking latino and spanish speaking immigrants. police have not made any arrests in this assault. the brawl that happened here on 16th and valencia early this

morning. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 morning news. police are still on the scene of an early morning fire in san carlos. it happened at 12:30 at a supply business on washington street. crews say it was hard to get to because it was so cluttered. nobody was injured. the fire and the cause is still under investigation. a nearby 24 hour fitness was evacuated as a precaution. we are also getting new video of an overnight fire in bay view district. it happened at a home on shafter antigennings street. -- and jennings street. officials say an unattended scandal spok -- candle sparked that fire. ktvu channel 2 morning news reporter alex savage joins us

in alameda with more on what we are learning about the search today, alex? >> reporter: a pair of coast guard vessels are searching for that missing single engine plane with a 75-year-old pilot at the controls and just a short time ago we spoke with a representative here in alameda from the coast guard and they say they do plan to launch a larger aircraft to begin searching a much larger area over of san mateo county coast. they are looking for a small experimental aircraft that went missing shortly after take off yesterday morning. we are showing you a stock photo of what is a model of the plane. this is not the actual plane involved but this is what was being flown by the pilot. andrew hayden, he was flying and was supposed to land

yesterday just outside of tucson but he never showed up there. that is when his wife reported him missing. the faa first got involved and eventually the coast guard was called in during the middle of the day yesterday. it appears something went wrong early on in the flight. >> according to his radar hits we got information from the air force, he is in the half-moon bay area and that's the information we have to go on and that's why we are searching that area right now pretty thoroughly. >> reporter: and the petty officers tells me this is still a rescue operation at this point. the coast guard has survivability models and at this point they believe they can find this 75-year-old pilot alive but thus far there is no sign of the wreckage but they will get this c-130 aircraft and they expect to have it up

and there is a minor crash. this is a good area to avoid. if you want to get into the valley, it will be decent before it fits all crowded. there are no major problems driving through. it is already filled in and it looks like traffic is backed up beyond the 880 over crossing. >> sal, there is a little bit of fog, temperatures are burning off and in fact we will continue to burn off and yesterday was a big deal. today it's still there, rain continues in the pacific northwest but coming in behind this system, high pressure and that will give us a northerly breeze and that will scour out that fog. today we have to deal with some thick fog and some of that fog is starting to show up between 6:00 and 8:000. it is getting

warmer, travis at 65, san jose is one of the coolest at 55 and 60 in the city and also san rafael. west at 10:00, they allowed that fog to form there is a little more of a breeze, higher clouds will move north, it looks like a warm week and we are set for some patchy fog and we will be fog free wednesday and thursday and all signs say nicer weather. and for a couple of hours it will be out of here fast, i think it is thin today. 60s and 70s, and by tomorrow, there will not be much of a spread. friday looks to be warm but not as warm. we'll see a significant cooling

. new this morning, a major art theft. several paintings stolen, including a picasso and monet. it is not clear how they did it but it appears they stole it right off the walls. those paintings were on loan from a private foundation. and, senator specter died from lymphoma at the age of 82. he spent 30 years in the senate. president barack obama ordered flags to be flown at half staff and other public buildings in senator expecter's -- specters honor. here is a look at both

candidates and their pressure. allison? >> reporter: we only had brief glimpses in the past few days. they have been working on debate preparations. we saw mitt romney at church sunday and we saw president barack obama taking a walk with his budget director. tonight they will have a town hall style format. the president's aides say he will be more energized after what critics say was a lack luster performance last time around and here is what one congressman said about it. >> after his last performance it is so low he will under do youdly exceed -- under doubtedly exceed that dash undoubtedly exceed that. >> reporter: a poll shows president barack obama is still favored to win the debate tonight. a closer look at how both campaigns are targeting women voters during my next update.

reporting live from washington d.c., allison burns ktvu channel 2 morning news. several locations are offering free viewing parties. in san francisco, they are hosting a viewing party. in burlingame, you can see a public library and it will be at the center. 56 million social security recipients just found out how much will go up next year. social security will go up 1.7% in january and it is tied to inflation. that makes it one of the smallest increases since 1975. well today marks seven months since sierra lamar disappeared. she vanished on her way to school and days later, her phone, her purse some clothing, it was all found near her home.

they think she has died and they have charged antolin garcia-torres with her murder. they will have a memorial for her which begins at 5:00. a mother is accused of having her five-year-old daughter shop list. marcy allegedly told her daughter to shop list from a morgan hill grocery store and when her daughter was stopped she hopped in the car and drove off. she is now facing felony commercial burglary charges. they will hear arguments in a legal challenge to reduce greenhouse compass emissions. -- greenhouse gas emissions. they ruled they were unconstitutional and they found they violate the federal commerce clause because they

starting tomorrow. there is some fog and what is there will not last very long. we will continue that theme today and wednesday into thursday, i will get some 80s and 90s and it will be rather toasty. a little bit warm wither, forecasted highs coming in 60s and 70s but a lot of 80s. also wednesday those will be the two go days and significant cooling trend will take us to the weekend, pam? they are not confirming reports of planned layoffs but bloomberg said as many as 400 jobs will be cut from the staff. they say plans are underway to strengthen and simplify how they deliver products but they have not discussed with employees how these changes could affect jobs.

a long information that was used in the face. the alameda sheriff's department is accused of not following up on the allegations. they have a connection between the lack of sleep and obesity. not getting enough sleep can harm fat cells and that can lead to very serious health problems. sleep deviation can reduce fat cells that are needed for regulating energy storing and use which can lead to type ii diabetes. the national league lock out is in its 5th week and they plan on resuming contract negotiations. last week they missed their first scheduled paycheck of the season. 82 games have been canceled so far and more cancellations can

violent street brawl broke out in the mission district. allie rasmus joins us from the scene which a long 16th and valencia with what one witness saw. allie? >> reporter: there were at least 20 - 30 people involved in this brawl right in the middle of the intersection. earlier this morning police had to close off the streets to traffic for two hours to do their investigation. one person was seriously hurt with life-threatening injuries and according to the witness, that victim was the focus of this fight. he was the only person being attacked by several people at once. the witness saw the whole thing happen from his window overlooking the street. several people who had been fighting yumped in and took

off. [ speaking spanish ] >> reporter: the taxi didn't stop he says and he said it looked like he was trying to hit everybody. that is what the witness said in spanish. they don't believe it was a gang related fight because of what he heard. he believes it is a racially motivated brawl. officers at the scene told us no weapons were used, again this was a fistfight involving multiple people and police have not made any arrests. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 morning news. one man is in the hospital, there is a suspect on the loose in west santa rosa. a man was shot in the stomach at the redwood park apartments on pinier road. they saw at least two men

kicking a man who was on the ground and then shots were fired. they say he was last seen driving 2012 jeep. earlier they raced through the restaurant supply store. this one happened and christian, are the crews tell here? >> yes. crews are still monitoring the scene and you can see why. >> reporter: you can see all of the items inside that restaurant supply store and that's one of the reasons this fire was so difficult to put out. this restaurant supply warehouse is packed to the rafters and all the way back and that's one of the reasons it was so dangerous and difficult to put out and they say embers can settle and that's why they want to stay on the scene and monitor flare- ups. that is why this fire was so hard to put out.

>> due to the high powered storage, extinguishment of the fire took a long time and it was very difficult. this was a major fire and the a arm went out. crews a ride and they were working to put out that fire earlier. the fire went to three alarms and in all, 40 firefighters showed up and they got the blaze under control at 2 finance. -- 2:15. the fire forced the evacuation of a 24 hour fitness. we saw water damage and a fan trying to clear out the smoke. we spoke with the staff and they say the jim will be closed at -- gym will be closed at least for today. clients are showing up trying to get to that 24 hour gym and

they are being told it will be closed for 24 hours as well as the firefighters and the details as they occur. for now live, christian captain, ktvu channel 2 morning news. we understand it is slow on 101 in san jose. >> yes, because of that crash we have been talking about northbound 101 in sunny veil, you can see traffic is slow and people are getting on 280 as well as an alternate route. northbound 101, there it is, that is the slow down we just showed you on the maps getting into san jose. now the two lanes are open, they are working hard to clear the other lanes. two 8 is getting slow as well.

that is getting backed up and it is 6:05 and we have a backup that stretches all the way out to the mcarthur maze, let's go to steve. it is not happening, maybe next week but until then everything says it will be warmer and maybe even record- setting warmer. the reason i say this is because high pressure is coming in behind the fog. yesterday it was santa rosa, san jose, not so much today. but a few areas of patchy fog. warm air a lot of and getting warmer but some of that fog can be thick in spots.

his conditions get worse over the bah-hah. it will pass by other areas and shelters are being set up as a precaution. paul should weaken to a tropical storm by tomorrow. they are mediating talks concerning the san bruno explosion. mitchell is known for peace talks and investigating steroid use in baseball. now he serves as chairman between regulators and pg&e over what is finance -- who financially libel for the explosion. they say peaceful talks are the best way to solve the case and bring closure to the san bruno people. and giants had a win and game 2, they are now tied at one game a piece. one of the big stories happened in the first inning when

. all right, welcome back, here is a look at some of the top stories we are following. an overnight fight in the mission district injured two people. the fight started at 2:00 a.m. at valencia and 16th street and a fire started after midnight at this restaurant store. nobody was injured however a

nearby fitness gym was evacuated. chris stevens was among several people attacked in libya. he grew up here in the bay area. a dead heat leading into tonight's debate. renee marsh is at the site of the debate with more on how president barack obama and mitt romney are hoping to pull ahead with their debate performance tonight, renee? >> reporter: good morning, pam, later this will all change and president barack obama and mitt romney come face to face and with a race as close as it is, tonight's debate is crucial, what will be different is that the undecided voters get to ask the questions. going into the second residential debate, mitt romney has momentum on his side.

experimental plane and where it was focused. this single engine plane took off yesterday morning. a 75-year-old pilot is at the controls and they tell me they have two vessels off the san mateo county coast. a short time ago, we got an update on this search and she tells me the coast guard will be putting up an aircraft to scan the ocean for signs of wreckage. here is a look at the type of plane missing. keep in mind this is not the actual plane involved. the pilot andrew hayden. he was the only person on board that aircraft. he was supposed to land in arizona in an airport just outside of tucson. his wife got worried and she called authorities. >> just one person on board, he

was supposed to go from california to floridean this first leg was supposed to take him -- florida and this first leg was supposed to take him to arizona and he never arrived so his wife called us. >> reporter: at sunrise this morning, they are planning to put up that much larger c-130 airplane and that plane can search a large area off the county coast for signs of wreckage. i spoke with the petty officer and she assures me this is still a rescue operation and it is still possible this pilot could be alive out on the water. alex salvage ktvu channel 2

morning salvage ktvu channel 2 morning news. 101 is backed up nearly to 280 and it is a huge stall here and let's take a look at 280 from the live picture. we already have a lot of slow traffic coming from 10 is and i would still say 280 is better. it is moving but not that fast. moving to other commutes, it has not been as bad as it was yesterday. it is backed up for a 20 minute delay. it was an earlier stall which was removed. it's not great on the bridge but it was earlier than it was yesterday. some patchy fog, it was fog city and there was some really thick fog yesterday. but it is decreasing rapidly and we will deal with it until 8:00. 60s on the lows.

in fact temperatures had higher clouds and most of those are thinning out rapidly now and high pressure says we will start to warm up. it is in the 50s and 60s so warm air aloft. we have to deal with some of that thick fog. 50s and 60s to even mid-60s, it is unbelievably warm. almost everybody had calm conditions. that breeze helps keep the fog from forming. high pressure is building in, sending everything way to the north. we are still getting that northwesterly breeze, it should be a gradual warmup. high pressure will take care of the fog and as you know it is a warm pattern for us. thick fog, a little bit warmer today, but more so tomorrow. still 70s and 80s and

temperatures continue to creep up. tomorrow into thursday, it looks to be record highs and it will still be warm on friday and we take those temperatures and drop them rapidly for a cooling trends over the weekend. they are hiring thousands of seasonal employees to prepare for the crowds. it plans on hiring several at fulfillment centers projecting thousands will become permanent. macies will add about 50,000 people and toys-r-us will need 4 5,000 employees. they have discovered underage interns in china. they were discovered during a company investigation at one of the factories. in some cases they are 14 years old. in some cases they are 16. they are trying to figure out
